Appeal following hate crime assault on south London bus

Police in Southwark are appealing for information and witnesses following a hate crime assault on a south London bus.

Officers were called at approximately 20:10 on Wednesday, 28 October to reports of a woman being subject to racial and Islamophobic abuse on a route 63 bus on London Road, Southwark. The bus was travelling from Kings Cross to Peckham.

Officers attended and spoke to a woman in her forties who stated she was injured as a result of being punched in the head and kicked off the bus by two female suspects.

The suspects were heard by the victim and witnesses shouting racist and islamophobic abuse at the victim before and after the attack.

The victim was badly shaken and taken to a central London hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged.

It is believed that a number of passengers may have filmed the incident and taken pictures of the suspects. Police are urging anyone with footage or images of the incident to get in touch.

No arrests have been made.

Officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command continue to investigate.
